Our communications principle is simple: Don't do to others what we don't want to have done to ourselves. When you sign up for an eFile account, set your preferences so we don't send you unwanted emails—we distinguish between transactional and informational emails—or share your email address with third parties.
Taxes can be complicated, confusing, and outright intimidating. As a taxpayer, you need reliable support, easy to understand tax information, and direct answers to your personal tax questions. No complicated tax mumbo jumbo talk, but simple-to-understand answers to your tax questions. Thus, the right communication channels between you and us are important. Below are different considerations for you plus options to set the boundaries of your communication with us.

Your Email Address

How to update your eFile.com email address: Sign in to your account

Email Spam Setting
How many times have you found important emails addressed to you in your email spam box? Emails or internet service providers many times don't get it right when trying to identify what is spam and what is not.
In order for eFile.com emails not to land in your spam folder, add the following email to your whitelist or non-spam list: email@example.com

As such, we will not share your email with third parties, nor will we send you unwanted informational communications once you set your preference. However, we feel compelled in your own self-interest to send you transactional communications. Learn below on what the difference is.
A transactional communication via email, phone, or text message is important information that is part of a critical transaction, such as a tax return or shopping cart. For example, each step your tax return takes (e-Filed, accepted or rejected, tax refund status, tax payment information), you as the originator need to stay informed on potentially important steps you may have to take to complete the started transaction. As stated above, transactional communications are critical emails. For example, one may inform a taxpayer that they are required to complete tax return related transactions. Thus, in your own self-interest, it is our obligation to keep you informed on important steps required to complete the transaction, such as preparing and eFiling a tax return
. Unsubscribing from transactional communication would jeopardize the completion of this transaction. As a result, it's important you keep your email or phone up to date on your eFile Tax Return Account
and your Personal Support Page or PSP
An informational communication via email, phone, or text message serves to inform you about important tax changes or new tax return tools that might impact your own taxes immediately or in the future. For example, if the IRS releases a new tax withholding form, we think it's important to inform you about this change, but also to assist you in preparing a new W-4 or withholding form
. eFile.com does not share your email or phone number with third parties or other service providers, thus all information emails you receive are only from eFile.com
. Throughout a calendar year, you might receive three to five informational emails.
One or two of these emails might include eFile.com-only promo codes that would reduce or eliminate any tax return preparation fees you might have to pay on eFile.com. By default, you are set up to receive informational emails. At any time, you can change the settings from your Personal Support Page
or from the preference link in the first ever received information email.
from Informational Communications
Throughout a calendar year, we send about three to five informational emails. If you unsubscribe from informational emails, you can subscribe again later via your Personal Support Page
. Transactional or tax return and support related emails are not included in the informational email un-subscription.
