The 2017 Earned Income Tax Credit

The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a refundable tax credit aimed at helping families with low to moderate earned income. If you work, let the EITC work for you! It will reduce the taxes you owe and will even be refunded to you if you do not owe taxes on your return. See previous year tax return resources. Note: you can no longer claim a 2017 Refund, so the 2017 EIC cannot be refunded.

File your current year tax return online on eFile.com! Each year, the eFile App is updated to prepare and e-file current year returns as past year returns are not able to be electronically filed anywhere. The eFile platform handles the tax forms and calculations for you and helps claim tax credits - do you qualify for the EITC this year? Use eFile.com to eFileIT in the current year!

How to Claim the Earned Income Tax Credit on Your 2017 Tax Return

You will need to prepare your 2017 Return on paper and mail it to the IRS to claim the credit. That's because the IRS only accepts e-filed tax returns for the current Tax Year.

Here's how to file your 2017 Tax Return:

  1. Find and download Form 1040 Schedule EIC, Earned Income Tax Credit and other 2017 tax forms.
  2. Complete the form(s) on the online editor.
  3. Print it out and sign it at the bottom of page 2. Attach any tax documents (i.e. W-2, 1099-MISC, etc.) to your return.
  4. Mail your return to the IRS address listed on your return - not the current year mailing address.
