Earned Income Tax Credit
This 2021 Earned Income Tax Credit calculator is for Tax Year 2021 only. The EIC or EITC is a refundable tax credit for taxpayers who have low or moderate incomes. This credit is meant to supplement your earned income, which is income you have earned by working for yourself - being self-employed - or working for someone else - employment or W-2 income. Learn more about taxable income and tax free income. You can no longer e-file 2021 Tax Returns; instead, prepare it by using these 2021 tax calculators and tax forms before you mail in your returns.
Important: You only have until April 15, 2025 to claim your 2021 Tax Refund, including the 2021 Earned Income Tax Credit. After this date, it goes to the federal government and expires for you. Don't surrender money that is rightfully yours!
e-File on time each year so you claim your full tax refund.

Do You Qualify for the 2021 EITC?
If you qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit, you can reduce your taxes and increase your tax refund. The tax credit is based on your total earned income or your total Adjusted Gross Income (AGI), whichever is higher. For example, if you have unemployment compensation, it is not considered earned income, but will be included in your AGI since unemployment is taxable income. The income limits get adjusted every year, so even if you did not qualify for the EITC in the past, you might qualify now and be able to claim it this year on your return. Start the 2021 Earned Income Tax Credit Calculator below to see if you qualify for this credit and learn what your credit amount may be.
Note: For Tax Year 2021, the eligibility for single taxpayers with no dependents was widened for more people to qualify; the calculator below accounts for this. Additionally, the IRS allowed taxpayers to use their 2019 adjusted gross income if it was higher than their 2021 AGI. You may use this in the calculator to compare the results.
